Changing Children's Lives With the Gift of Literacy

Changing Children's Lives With the Gift of Literacy

Imagine a young child receiving a book in the mail every month until the age of five. What better way to say reading is important? Children enrolled in the Ferst Program receive a new book every month in the mail until their 5th birthday. There is absolutely no cost (ever) to registered children in participating areas! The program is made possible through the partnership with local, all-volunteer Community Action Teams (CATs).

Ferst Readers is a 501C3 organization whose funding is provided through private donations, corporate sponsorships, and grants. Contact us to help with a local program or get a new one started in your area so that we may work together to bring the gift of literacy to every child from birth-5 years old. Partnering together, we can help prepare every child for success in school and in life.

Ferst Gift Subscriptions

If you would like to provide a child with books monthly through our Ferst Gift subscription program, please contact our office at (888)565-0177.

NOW any child under 5 can be a part of the Ferst Readers literacy program! Ferst Gift! subscribers will receive up to 60 books!

Through the Ferst Gift! subscription program, children outside of our participating areas - anywhere in the US, in fact - can be a part of our exceptional literacy program with an impressive track record.

Grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, friends can give a truly meaningful gift to that special child! Imagine your gift arriving by mail, addressed to the child, every month - for up to 5 years! And beyond that, it lays the foundation for a lifelong love of books and reading.

This is one gift a child will never outgrow!

How Does It Work?

Enrollment is open to children under the age of five. Every month your child will receive a new, age appropriate book and newsletter with tailored reading guides and activity pages, all specially designed to make reading fun for the whole family! Children may receive up to 60 books (depending on their age when they enter the program). Reading specialists, children's librarians, educators and child development specialists carefully select this 60-volume set of books. Many are childhood classics we all know and love. (Click here for a look at our award-winning books.)

Shortly after enrollment, we will send a customized welcome book with an acknowledgement card in your name. About six weeks later, an age appropriate book and resources will begin to arrive monthly. Upon completion of the program, the child will receive a special graduation book.

How Much Does It Cost?

During the registration process, you will pay the amount in full for the number of years the child has until he/she reaches 5 years old.  Books are age-specific, so please provide the child’s correct age. Please call our office to register your child for the Read Ferst program at (888) 565-0177.

Based on child’s age at time of registration:

  • Age 4: $40 = 1 full year/12 books
  • Age 3: $80 = 2 full years/24 books
  • Age 2: $120 = 3 full years/36 books
  • Age 1: $160 = 4 full years/48 books
  • Under age 1: $200 = 5 full years/60 books
