“I don’t remember a time in my childhood without books – whether it was sitting on my daddy’s lap reading one of the many Little Golden Books my mom picked up at the grocery store, curling up with Ferdinand in my room, or plowing through the latest Sweet Valley High. In fact, I went on to spend most of my career devoted to publishing and putting books into the hands of readers – many of them kids – so the thought of children not having an age-appropriate book in the home is unfathomable.
When I learned about Ferst Readers, I immediately jumped in to help as a volunteer, then as a donor and now as a board member and the mom of a Read Ferst subscription member. Each month, a quality book arrives in our mailbox with creative play suggestions and learning extensions, and I know we’re going to have a meaningful reading experience. It’s something every parent and child should have the opportunity to share together.”
