League of Extraordinary Students

Anna Chapman, LOES member from
Putnam County High School
Ferst Readers’s League of Extraordinary Students was created as a way for young adults (college, high school, middle school & elementary) to engage in the spirit of philanthropy and become inspired to make a difference in their own community.
Extracurricular Benefit
Many school programs require an element of volunteer service as a condition of membership or as part of a course requirement:
- AP
- IB
- National Honor Society
- Boy Scouts/Girl Scouts
Many colleges look at high school resumes as part of their application process, and volunteer service is considered a real plus! Becoming part of the League of Extraordinary Students is a great way for a student to fulfill his/her volunteer service obligation.
The Program
Students wishing to join the elite ranks of the League of Extraordinary Students will, over the course of their service:
- Raise the funds to register one (or more) child(ren) in the Ferst Readers program to receive free books and literacy support material for the family until he/she turns 5 years ($200 per child).
- Perform 10 hours of literacy-related community service.

- Receive a Certificate of Appreciation signed by Ferst Readers Founder, Robin Ferst.
